Hop for a Cure!

Welcome to the 2011 Hop for a Cure blog hop. We are running this fun crop and hop to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  I decided to participate in this hop because unfortunately, I lost my father to diabetes or perhaps they considered it something else as when you have diabetes it affects so many other areas of your being. Sadly, my children never knew their grandfather as he passed away before my eldest was born. I am hoping that they find a cure to both types of diabetes as insulin nor organ transplants are cures. Thank you for your support to help find a cure to diabetes.

The hop starts Friday,February 28th at 8:00AM and ends on Saturday,February 5th at midnight.  I will still be posting new projects each day so, check back to see the new creations from myself and the SweetSassyDiva design team.

Here are the participating blogs:

So, I thought that since we are doing the blog hop for a cure of juvenile diabetes that I would do a project with my children in mind. We had seen the new version of the Karate Kid although I do think it was not exactly age appropriate even though they had it for the children's cinema. My son just loved the Kung Fu Panda movie when it came out and the Karate Kid further fueled the fire to learn Karate.  So, we signed him up for lessons and his uniform needs to have his name on it.  So, what better project to test it out but, to put his name on his uniform.  As I recently received the Yudu CardShop, I thought this would be a perfect first project to try.  Of course, no pressure for a blog hop and why not do a video tutorial too!    Click hyperlink to see the video!

I do not have the original Yudu by Provocraft but, I had used it at CHA during the vendor portion for a make and take with the assistance of the demonstrators in the Provocraft booth.  I also had made a shirt at the swarm for the Cricut Circle where Shannon had demonstrated the original Yudu.  Now, that is only merely pulling it a total of two times after the screen had been flooded by someone else.  I can hardly say that I am an expert but, I had seen it done and have touched the squeegee!

So, I ventured out creating my own screen because why would I have my first project using the pre-burned screen that comes with the kit?  NAW....too easy!

Here is the finished back of his uniform:

How did I do it you ask?  I used the Gypsy and flipped the images.  The font is Blackletter which is a solutions cartridge.  I cut it out on my Cricut although you could also use the Imagine to cut it out as well.

I think it turned out great especially for my very first run.  I did not even practice on something else.  My husband was even impressed.  I guess the true test is how my son likes it when he sees it.

After I pulled it on the Yudu Card Shop, I hug it to dry.  To speed up the process, you could use a hair dryer.  Also, be sure to not let the ink sit on the screen more than 20 minutes or you could ruin your screen.  The best thing is to have your projects lined up for a particular screen and do them all at once.

After it is dry but, before you launder it, be sure to heat set the image by taking a light colored cloth and ironing over the design.  If you do not heat set it according the the instructions on the Yudu ink bottle, your image will prematurely fade and/or potentially wash out in the laundry.

Hmmm, I wonder if I can get some free lessons for advertising the dojo?  I guess I hadn't thought of that before I posted.  Do tell him that I sent you, if you sign up for classes.  Anyway, on to the challenge.

Each week the SweetSassyDiva design team has a challenge and each member comes up with a project for that theme.  For this week, it is a movie theme.  So for the challenge of this blog hop, be an honorary design team member and take your favorite or whichever movie theme you pick and do a project using cricut cartridges if you have them.  Please link the picture below using the linky tool to your blog or if you do not have a blog, please use http://sweetsassydiva-gspot.blogspot.com as your blog address.  Please include the movie you chose, why etc, inspiration and feel free to include a cut file or tutorial if you desire on your blog.  My movie theme is Karate Kid.  I can't wait to see what you choose.

Be sure to check back this week to see what everyone makes for the challenge.

  4. That came out so nice. You have inspired me to open my Yudo Cardmaker I got the other day. Did you use the vinyl with the adhesive backing? Were you able to remove it so you can reuse the blank screen?

Thanks for a chance to win the nursery cart.

  9. Great ideas for this hop! I confess, I made this card for the "make a card for a child" challenge but it was inspired by the movie "Spirit". My daughter loves that movie and this card is for her birthday Sat. It's fine if I'm not involved in your drawing, I just wanted to meet everyone! Blessings, Lisa
