4th of July Favors!

Hi my crafty friends, Brenda here from Friends Craftin' with Friends.  This week on SSD we were given the theme "the big bang!".  So with the 4th this week, I decided to make some favors for the day.

Now I had some problems, problems with my Gypsy, problems with my E2 not cutting right, you name it was happening so by the time I was ready to put my die cuts together, I was so frustrated that I only made two, and didn't go a very good job at these two either.  But it is what it is. lol  I started off with this die from My Creative Time. I cut it out and assembled it. [sweetsassydiva actually made her own gypsy file that creates this on the cricut.  You can see her post here!]

Then I use this die from Tim Hotz and cut and assembled my rosettes.

Then I made my cuts using Independence Day cart.  I assembled them and glue onto my rosettes and then glued my rosettes onto my favor.  I used some red stickles to accent my die cuts too.  And here are my two little favors.  I would have made more if I hadn't had so many problems cause I think they are cute.  Looks like a call to PC is in my future. Sigh  Anyway, I hope you have gotten lots of inspiration from the design team this week and will give a project a try using our theme "the big bang!".  Happy 4th to everyone!!! Now I'm going out to the pool to destress! lol

Big Bang!

Hi!!  Lori here from ScrappinMyStressAway with a 4th of July layout!!

I wasn't sure if I would be able to craft once I fell and broke my right (dominant) wrist.  I was determined to make something!!!

We usually host a 4th of July party at our house and I am too busy to take a ton of photos.  For this 2-pager, I only left 2 spots for photos....I can take 2 good shots this year right?!?

I got out my Gypsy and tried the left hand orientation but really couldn't make it work, so I switched back.
I strarted out with the star from Stand and Salute sized to 9.59 inches.

This left room for my title 4th of July also from Stand and Salute sized to 4.41 inches.

I cut out this layer in red and blue.  Here you can see my beautiful cast!!!

On Layer 2, I put two stars sized to 5.50 inches.

The fireworks are also from Stand and Salute and are sized to 1.82 and 2.41 inches.

The banner pieces are from Independence Day and are sized to 2.06.
I used blue cardstock to cut this layer.

Layer 3  included one star and six fireworks copied from Layer 2.

Also on this layer are the other two banner layers.  I grouped the pieces so the top half will be cut in white cardstock and the bottom half will be cut in red cardstock.

Here they are cut out.

I ran the red and blue layers through my Xyron.  I stuck the twine on the top of the red layer and sandwiched it between the red and white layers.

Here is the banner assembled.

The musical note paper is Recollections from Michaels.  Everytime I think of fireworks, I can hear music in my head...well except for that one episode of the Brady Bunch!!!

I pop-dotted the fireworks to my page and put some stickle dots on the edges.

I had my friend Jenny from YogiMemories ink my edges with Brick Red for me.  I thought that would be a disaster if I tried!!!

I pop-dotted the banner flags to my page and wrapped the twine around the back of the paper.

More fireworks and inking.

I really liked how this turned out!  I hope I inspired you to create a project that reminds you of a BIG BANG!!

Thanks Bobbi Jo for having me over today!!

Changing Seasons.....

This week's challenge was a fall theme. Fall means back to school, and as a homeschool mom I am the one who gets to come up with our bulletin board ideas. However we don't have a bulletin board as such, so we make do with poster board when needed. This year I'm incorporating things for my 3 year old as part of school, and so that means more hands on. I also wanted to give the older kids a different perspective on seasons. The fact that with each passing season, time is moving forward....so there sprang my idea of a calendar/clock for the seasons. (That is what my 10 yr old has decided that it is called.) This project literally took me some time. I am so thankful for my gypsy and the weld function....and that I can load up several images from different cartridges at one time. I can't imagine having done this one without it. It's a very simple poster, but it took a lot of time welding, layering, and then some...so here we go...
This is how I laid out one of my sheets for cutting. This is the one for all of the little symbols that I am putting around the clock. This is another reason I love my gypsy...I can lay things out according to the screen on my mat, and not waste paper. I get so much more use from scraps then I ever have. As you can see on this one I have all sizes laid out.
Another tool I used was my heat embosser...another one of those things I love. I had cut out the title of my project on some ugly paper that just didn't do it for me. With the help of some stampendous ink and embossing powder it really stands out...which is good or it would get lost.
After getting everything cut, and starting to lay it all out I realized that I had forgotten a circle. I grabbed my creative memories circle cutter and had one if just a few seconds. (I'm thinking this one should have been on tools.)
Finally here are all of my pieces ready to start placing.
I started with the clock face. I cut out 2 inch strips in colors I thought would represent each month and glued them around the circle. I then added the small circle to the center of the clock to cover the edges.
I embossed all of the months and the title, glittered the numbers, and some of the symbols. After it was all dry I laid it out on the poster board. It doesn't look fancy, but it shows the idea of what I wanted for the kids to realize, that seasons, and months as they go by are time passing by. I want them to enjoy what each one brings, and not keep wishing them away. So each month has some symbol of something to look forward to. I also used the landscape scene from camping critters to give an idea of what the world outside looks like. Here is my finished project and then I will give the whatnots on the pieces.
Ok here we go I hope I don't miss anything:
Cricut cartridges:
Plantin schoolbook for the numbers, title, and months (welded with the gypsy)
George and Basic shapes for the large circle (clock face)
Camping Critters for the landscapes.
Gypsy wanderings for the seasons, seasons shadows, and jack-o-lantern
Create a critter for the turkey
Doodlecharms for the stocking, snowman, valentine, flower, sun, ice cream, and school bus
Sugar and Spice for the kite and umbrella
Independence day for the flag banner
Creative memories cutter for small circle
Stampendous embossing powders, and clear stamping ink
heat embossing tool
glitter glue
a brad for the clock arm.
Have a great day, thanks for looking, and remember to enjoy each month, each season, each day for that matter, because it is all passing time. You can't get it back.....Angie

Stripes for 4th of July Challenge!

Hi!  Lori here from ScrappinMyStressAway!  My challenge for SweetSassyDiva was to create a 4th of July project using stripes but no stars.  This was not as easy as I thought it would be!!  I started out thinking about making a card and was thinking about the flag without using stars.  I thought it was too plain for a card, so I merged this idea with another one I started a while back ~ a layout about shopping for fireworks!

I found this flag on Independence Day and cut it out at 5.96w x 3.50h.  I cut out the flag in white and stripes in red.

I cut out 4th of July from Stand and Salute to fit in the square where the stars would go.  I wasn't sure if I was going to put white on blue or blue on white, so I cut out both.

I ran the stripes through my Xyron.

I used the negative piece as a template to adhere the stripes to the flag.

I pulled off the negative piece.  As you can see, I leave the pieces on the mat until I am ready for them.  This way I don't lose anything!!

Nope....did not like this look!

Much better!  But the blue looked too long, so I looked it up online and realized the first long stripe is white.  I trimmed the blue and resized and recut the 4th of July.

Then I cut out the tent and banners from Carousel.  The tent is sized at 6.58w x 5.75h..  I cut out the banner at 5.67w x 2.23h.

I cut out the base of the tent and more banners on the next layer.

I used the font on Batman for the word FIREWORKS at 1.31h.  I cut an extra I in red and welded a fuse (a lower case L from Lyrical Letters) to the first L.  I welded the fuse to the L and welded the word together.  I welded and cut out the words shopping for (at 1"h) from Lyrical Letters

I cut apart the blue and white banners and glued them to the red one.

I took these circles (3 different sizes) that I punched out from a thesaurus.

I crinkled them up.

I painted them red with acrylic paint.  I used a little black paint to ink the edges.

I layered them into flowers with a blue crystal in the center.
I took my flag and made it into a secret journaling flap.  Or maybe I will have an extra picture to stick inside...

I like hidden photos and journaling!!

Here is my little firework.  I used stickles to stripe it and to cover the fuse.

I inked the edges of the paper with red paint.  I added stickles to the 4th of July.  I added stickle stripes to the banner.  I also added a stripe of ribbon (or two) to the photo mats.

Here is the other page.

In our family, shopping for fireworks is a big tradition!  My husband (biggest kid in the family) goes as often as I allow him to!!  We have a big party every 4th!

Now, what to do with my discards and scraps.....well make a card of course!!

I kept with the stripe theme and glued down some stripes.

I took this scrap and just cut out three circles.  I crinkled them and inked the edges with black paint.

I added some gems and the white 4th of July (the one that was too big for the flag)!

Thanks so much Bobbi Jo for having me on your blog for the 4th of July Stripes Challenge!!!
