Pinterest Challenge!

Hi everyone...it's Angie...long time no see. I've been hiding in my own little world here on the farm. We are busy getting things ready for winter. There is already snow on them hills. This morning the sun is coming up through the trees, a fire is going in the wood stove and I'm watching the roof thaw as the frost melts and drips like rain. It's going to be another beautiful sunny day. I'm hanging on to every last bit of summer/fall that I can. So onto my Pinterest project. I've become a pinterest addict lately. I get so many great ideas from there from crafting to well everything. So this challenge is perfect it made me actually go back through the boards and pick one to do. I chose a pin from Smallbitsofpaper.blogspot.com. I love the colors...so cheery and bright. I used papers from recollections, ribbon, my gypsy, the paisley cartridge and cricut craftroom basics.
See what I mean about the bright colors. They are so pretty. One of the biggest things that I love about my gypsy is that I can see how the pieces and parts are laid out and I can use scraps of paper that I would normally just have thrown away, that and I don't have to keep changing cartridges.
Here are the pieces all cut out...not much wasted paper at all.
And here is the card. Isn't it cheery?! The frames were cut using the cricut craftroom basics The lady bug was cut cut from Paisley...as well as the rectangles. I used some pink ribbon that I had, and a stamp for the sentiment in pink. I hope you enjoyed. If you are a pinner I strongly suggest picking just one and getting started...I know that I will be.

Kids, Kuts, and Kurls!

Hello everyone  I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day this past weekend.
This week for Sweet Sassy Diva Design Team we were challenged to use three or more Cricut carts on our project.  I decided to work on a layout of my oldest granddaughter getting her first haircut.
The paper I used is from Mambi and was purchased at Joanns.
I wanted to make a bright cheerful layout and use the red in Katie's shirt.
The pictures were taken in February when Katie was 25 months old.
As most of you know who have seen my layouts before, Katie has the most gorgeous curly hair which runs in our family.  Everywhere we go people want to touch her hair but as you can imagine it gets quite tangled at times.
My friend Liz is a beautician so we asked her to do the honors.  We weren't certain how she would react but she sat on Mom's lap eating her goldfish crackers and was fine through the whole process.
The title Kids, Kuts, and Kurls I found in the awesome book Inspiration Station by Betsy Flot.
This is an excellent book if you make a lot of layouts.
I used the Plantin Schoolbook Roly Poly font cut at 1.5 inches and glued to 2 1/2 inch strips of yellow polka dot paper.
The hair dryer comes from the Paisley cart page 59 cut at 5 inches.
The comb and brush from the Slumber Party cart cut at 5 inches.
I added a few doodles to the cuts using my Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers.
I hope you enjoyed my layout and will come back this week to see what the other Design Team members create with their Cricut carts.  Happy craftin!  Suzanne

Happy Birthday!

This week for the Sweetsassydiva design team we were given a sketch to follow for our design. I'm usually not very good following sketches but this one I really liked and had an idea right away....and then it changed.

I chose colors that reminded me of the beach. (I'm homesick for warmth.) I made the base a 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 card out of a light green cardstock. I then cut another rectangle out of "sandy" beige that was 4 1/4 x 6. On top of that I layered a "sky" blue strip. A small yellowish strip, and a green strip that can be my beach towel. I inked all of the edges in a blue to make them stand out just a bit. Using the cricut and my gypsy I cut out a scallop cicle at 3 1/4 in (gypsy wanderings) a 3 in circle (also gypsy wanderings) 2 rounded rectangles to form the tag one at 3 in the other at 2 3/4 (from george and basic shapes) a 1 1/2 in flower (paisley) and "leaves" which were paisleys at 1 in (also from paisley)
I inked the edges of the "sun" in orange and the flower in orange as well. I stamped the happy birthday and beach ball on the tag. I colored in the beach ball using le plume markers. I then stamped the umbrellas on the beach towel/ribbon strip and colored them in. I affixed them all into place and added a center self stick dot to the flower...and called it beachy!!
I hope that this finds you with a warm and sunny week ahead.

Hello!

Hello everyone ! Mindy from Grammies Craft Room with a Button Up project  to share with you. I had a hard time deciding what direction to go with this challenge. I had  a Cricut cut in mind when I first saw this theme but of coarse when I went to actually make it I couldn't find it!! Has that happened to you?? I ended up using the 'Button' function key on the Paisley cartridge on page 33.
I cut it in 3 sizes  2", 2.25" and 2.5"  The middle is cut at 2" but I moved it to cut out in the  same paper as the second layer.  I inked all the edges and attached with glue only in the center of each layer.
The  button is from my button box :) with a piece of hemp tied through it. The sentiment is from Stampin Up with Early Espresso ink. The ribbon is Sage Shadow (ret) from Stampin Up. I stamped Crumb Cake card stock - SU - with a SU stamp using Crumb Cake ink - SU The patterned paper is from DCWV - Linen Closet stack . Someday maybe my photography skills will improve and the pictures will do the image justice! I can tell you this card looks so much better in person! I am very happy with the way it turned out !

With Love!

This week we were asked to make a Vintage type valentine. I love the vintage look, and am working on trying to make it more often. I still have trouble with the layers at times...but will only get better with practice.
I started with a 5 1/2 by 6 in base for my card...in natural (looks like cardboard) paper. I used paper from color bok that looked like old fashioned wall paper. The first layer is a basic rectangle cut from George & Basic shapes. The second layer is a square also cut with George, then I used scalloped scissors to go around the edges. There is also tags this way on different cartridges...I was just in a mood to play with my "toys". The third layer is a large scallopped flower cut from Paisley...then a lace doily on top of that. On top of the doily is another flower cut from Paisley with a cardboard center cut from my 1 in. punch. I topped off the card with corrogated cardboard and a wooden button with some shiny thread...used a "With Love" stamp...and called it a Valentine. Some of the details of the layers....I used a light brown ink to distress the doily so that it aged the appearance. I also used a dark brown ink on the edges of the large scallop flower, the small flower and on the creases of the cardboard. I stamped the sentiment in black. I love the look of all of the papers together. I am a creature of habit that uses a plain with a matching print...so to mix and match this way is always a challenge. I hope that you like this one.

A few of my favorite things about Winter!

Hello....what a beautiful day to be writing this up. This is the first morning to wake up with the ground covered in snow. I love the snow for the first few days, and then I am ready for spring again. So onto this weeks project....Christmas cards.
This card represents some of my favorite things about winter....other than just Christmas. I chose the plaid paper (dcwv seasons paper stack), to represent flannel. There is nothing warmer than a flannel shirt, or a set of flannel sheets to curl up in. The red and green are for Christmas. I chose to use twine to represent the cord on a sled. So then to go sledding you have to button up and have snow. So with all of that in mind here how I made my card.
I used green cardstock, folded in half makes a 4 1/2 x 6 size card.
I cut out a piece of the plaid (eyed it) and glued to the top. I added a strip of tan across the bottom and stamped it with snowflakes.
I used my gypsy and cut out a tag, using George for the circles and Paisley for the flower....I would say they are 1 1/2, 2 in for the circles and 2 1/2 for the flower.
I stamped the center with a snowflake and the "Warm Wishes" sentiment, layered them together and placed them on the card at a diaganol/slant...because snowflakes never fall straight to the ground.
I added a snowflake button to cover the hole that the twine is threaded through. (It's a fabulous findings button.) I then added twine to the top of the card, used a pop dot to adhere the button and wrapped the part of twine around it that was holding the tag.
(this will all make sense when you see it....very very simple, like a day of sledding, flannel blankets, and hot chocolate)

Apple Card!

It's National Apple Week...and mmmmm who doesn't love something with apples, be it apple pie, or apple flavored jolly ranchers....it's time for apples. That is also our challenge for this week at sweetsassydiva.com
This week I even pushed myself beyond my comfort zone in crafting and used all patterened paper.....oooo, ahhh...laffin. I'm one of these gals who has to match everything, plains with patterns, not just patterns...so it was interesting for me...so here it goes.
I gathered up my papers (DCWV autumn paper stack 2010, and DCWV harvest gatherings stack)
I used my gypsy to lay everything out and cut all at once.
I then glued the apples together, and colored the stem with a brown marker.
I used brown ink and edged the card and the frame on the front of the card. I added green and tan raffia to the frame and then placed my apples on. I finished it off with a button for a little extra.
So there you have it a sweet little card for any occasion.

Queen Bee!

No unfortunately I didn't get my hives yet, but I did make an adorable birthday card. I've been looking through my card folding magazine and seen this accordian fold that screamed make me when I saw it. So after doing some resizing on my gypsy....I started cutting and piecing together. It's a super simple card, and I enjoyed making it for one of my friends daughter's birthday.
The base of my card is 4 3/4x 20 1/2. I used the citrus stack by DCWV. I cut two strips at 10in. (Next time I would cut one at 10 1/4- 10 1/2 in order to account for gluing them together.) The blue strip is folded at 5 in, the yellow at 10 1/4, 12, 16 1/4 and 18 in. I glued the first fold onto the inside of the blue piece, and the others folded to make the accordian part of the card. I then rounded the corners with my corner punch.
Then I went to my gypsy. I used my PAISLEY cartridge to cut out almost the entire card. I love this cartridge, it is so girly, and I have a lot of them around this house. My cuts are as follows:
queen 1/5x4
bee and layers 3 1/2
crown 3
flowers small 1 larger 1 1/2
then for the sentiment I used the celebrations cartridge. It's your day at 1 1/2, happy birthday at 3 in.
After everything was cut it was time to assemble the card.
One of the best things about this card is all of the cuts were made from scraps...which continues to show me why I keep a box of paper pieces when hubby thinks it's trash ;)
I added some buttons and self stick gems to glam it up a bit. The little bee is a button from Fabulous Finds. It took me a bit of time arranging and rearranging before gluing everything down. I wanted the bee's head to reach the crown, and yet look like it was flying when the card is opened. I used zots pop dots to add dimension to the bee and the flowers. The center of the flowers is a button with a larger self stick gem.
I then glued "It's your day" under the crown, but also hidden by the bee when the card is open. "Happy Birthday" was glued to a 4x4 in square and then placed on the inside fold of the card. I think that it turned out really cute for a great "Queen Bee"
I hope this inspires you to get creative with folds. I'm looking forward to trying different folds, either with paper or for the cards. One last pic of it open from the side and then I'll "bee" off ;) (had to go there)
